Is it more effective when you clean with heated water?

Pressure washers come in two fundamental designs…either hot water or a cold water unit. We at Blast Off use both however we are unique in that we offer both. Heated water creates a high-speed molecular action that causes the cleaning agent to be more active and this energy also causes a reduction in the surface tension allowing it to easily and more effectively penetrate the molecules of grease and grime. Think of it like washing greasy dishes in the sink. No matter how much soap you use, you are only smearing the grease around in cold water. Add hot water, and it cuts through the grease and oil in no time. The same applies to cleaning with a pressure washer. If oil or grease is present in any form, you will need a hot water pressure washer to remove it. The rule of thumb is simple: whatever cold water cleans, hot water will clean better and faster. Because we can effectively activate the chemicals we can use less of them, and in some cases the hot water can do the job by itself. This is safer for you, your family, pets, plants and the things you care the most about.

Are all pressure washing companies the same?

Anyone can purchase a pressure washer. Simply owning a pressure washer and advertising you offer a service doesn’t mean you can operate it effectively. A pressure washer in the hands of an unskilled operator can cause a great deal of damage. Wood carved into at too high of a pressure, plants and lawn killed, siding blown off, water seepage in behind siding, paint peeled from house and even concrete cut and etched.

Do I need to be home when you are working on my property?

No, because we understand that you are just as busy as we are. We do ask that you close all of your windows, clear your driveway or deck and put away fragile decorations from the areas being washed.

Does Blast Off Pressure Washing Ltd. have insurance and/or Worksafe coverage?

Definitely. We carry a five-million-dollar insurance policy for damage liability (most strata require this high of a limit). We also have two million dollars in personal injury coverage in case of injury to others while we are working. We are currently with a Worksafe or “WCB” account and can provide that number upon request.

I received a coupon from another pressure washing company offering very low prices, are your prices higher?

We are very competitive in our pricing. The companies that offer extremely low prices are cutting costs on equipment, rushing the job which affects the outcome, not using chemicals and in most cases not carrying insurance. Low-priced offers, according to the Better Business Bureau, result in the most complaints and unresolved problems reported to the BBB.

Is a water source needed?

Yes a water source is required. Unfortunately we cannot bring water with us to the job so the client must provide access to a cold water tap.

Is there a difference between pressure washing and power washing?

No, there is no difference between pressure washing and power washing, it’s just different terminology.

My contractor said my siding and deck are zero maintenance is this true?

Low maintenance yes, zero maintenance no. Anything left outside in the sun and humidity will get dirty and oxidize. Your car gets dirty sitting in your driveway, so does your house and deck.

What are the benefits of pressure washing?

Just to name a few: eliminating mould and mildew, improved curb appeal, safety, and increased property value. Keeping a clean home makes you look like a responsible homeowner who cares about their property.

What are these dark stains on my siding and can they be removed?

The dark stains you are seeing is mould and/or algae. All mould needs to grow is moisture (humidity) and a food source and it will grow anywhere. Mould can be removed with light pressure wash and the right chemicals. You always need a strong chemical to eliminate mould spores as it will return unless the entire affected area is treated.

What are these black streaks on my gutters and can they be removed?

The black streaks on your gutters are from dirt and oxidation on the layer of paint. Over time the sun will make it harder to remove. When you see them, call us right away! The black streaks can be removed or at least reduced using the right chemicals. We have turned many dull, dirty gutters into shiny, like-new pieces of art!

What is this white powdery stuff on my masonry and can it be removed?

The white powdery stuff is called ‘efflorescence’. It is caused when water seeps through and dissolves salts inside then evaporates leaving the salt on the surface. It can best be removed at its early stages. Once it sets in it may even need to be sanded off with power equipment due to the strength of the salt as it hardens like rock over time.

Why does wood turn gray and can you bring back out the colour?

Wood turns gray because it is exposed to elements such as water and sunlight. In order to prevent your wood from turning gray, have us clean it and you stain and seal your deck or fence every 2-3 years.

Why is insurance important?

Many contractors state they have insurance, but few actually have more than an ICBC automobile policy. If damage occurred to your home by a contractor, or an injury on your property you could easily be held responsible. Always ask for proof of insurance. That little question alone cold save you thousands of dollars!! The AVERAGE injury claim in our industry is $18,900 according to Worksafe BC. If a worker is injured on your property and they lack WCB (Worksafe) coverage then you are responsible in the eyes of the law. You may have had zero to do with the accident but the fact that someone got injured on your property makes you a liable party. Choose insured and Worksafe certified companies only and rest assured!

Will your pressure washing cause any damage to my property?

We are very professional when dealing with our client’s property. We make sure to use proven cleaning methods and only approved gear, and the right amount of pressure at the proper temperature to ensure we do not damage to your property. Plants will be rinsed before cleaning around the area and rinsed afterwards.

Will pressurized water be forced under my siding?

ABSOLUTELY-NOT! We use our soft low pressure method when spraying your house and have the proper cleaners to aid in our job. You will find our company to be more effective cleaning at low pressure to ones that use more pressure because we use a well thought out technique and the correct tools that will cause no damage to your house.

Will the chemicals you use cause any damage to my plants?

Blast off Pressure Washing has spent a considerable amount of time researching and testing the chemicals we use. We only use safe, biodegradable and effective cleaners that will not harm your landscape. We also pre-rinse and post-rinse any plants in our cleaning area to keep things clean.

Will there be dirt on my windows after you clean my house?

No. We do rinse off any windows that are within our area of cleaning due to the fact that spray will deflect off areas as we wash it. For an additional cost we can clean your windows to a spotless shine.

Will you send us a reminder notice when your service needs to be done again?

If you ask us to, many of our regular customers are on our reminder list. We recommend keeping your property, gutters, fencing and deck clean and up to date.

Do you charge a minimum fee for a visit to do a cleaning?

Our minimum fee of $200 is for 2 hours time. If we have time remaining after doing your cleaning you can leave a list of other items for us to use that extra time to work on. Plus we can charge an hourly rate if you wanted us to continue doing work beyond the two hours.
